The free demo and the paid intro

The free demo, the intro, how translation minutes are counted, and what happens, step by step, when the intro is over.

Before you pay anything, you can hear Lingvoo in a free live demo. After that, an intro lets you use it in your own meetings before a plan begins.

Trying the free demo

The demo sits inside the signup quiz, before you create an account, choose a plan or add a card. Your browser asks to use the microphone, you speak a few sentences, and you hear them translated back to you, both spoken and written, just as the other person in a call would. It takes around a minute and is free. When you’re ready, try the free demo.

The demo lets you hear the translation; it doesn’t join an actual meeting. To have the translator in your own Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams calls, choose an intro as described below.

How the intro works

The quiz shows you the intro you can take. Its length, minutes and price are shown on the checkout screen before you pay:

  • A few days with a set number of minutes. The intro gives you a short period and a minute allowance for using Lingvoo in real meetings.
  • After that, your plan. Once the intro ends, the plan shown at checkout takes over, adding minutes every billing period, until you cancel.

You pay for the intro at checkout. If Lingvoo doesn’t suit you, email support@lingvoo.com within 7 days of buying and we’ll refund the intro, once per account; see the Refund Policy. Cancelling, or not using the minutes, doesn’t trigger a refund on its own. Each account can have one intro. Other plans are paid in full at checkout, without an intro or a trial. The intro minutes are best used on a real meeting, so plan them for a call that is already booked early in the intro, not on its final day.

How minutes are counted

Minutes run while the translator is in your call, and the spoken language is always free: every minute of the call uses one minute less than the number of languages you chose. Two languages use one minute per minute, three use two, and so on. This is the key thing to understand before you plan a meeting around the intro.

An example. A session with two languages uses 1 minute for each minute the translator is in the call, so one intro minute lasts roughly one minute of meeting. Add a third language and the same minutes go half as far.

If you split the intro minutes across calls, keep the minimum in mind: a session only starts when the balance has at least 5 minutes of the call (5 minutes with two languages, 10 with three), so what remains after one call may not be enough to begin another.

When the intro ends

If you haven’t cancelled, your plan starts when the intro ends - to the hour from checkout - and the card on file is charged the price shown at checkout. Everything else stays the same: same account, same settings, more minutes, and you can cancel the plan whenever you like after that.

If you run out of minutes during the intro

An empty balance stops translation, not your subscription. When minutes reach zero, the translator keeps going on a grace allowance of 10 billed minutes (roughly ten more minutes of call with two languages, five with three), so no one is cut off mid-sentence. After that, the translator leaves the meeting and the session ends.

A new session needs more than a minute or two to spare: Lingvoo won’t start one unless the balance has at least 5 minutes of the call, meaning 5 minutes for two languages and 10 for three.

Meanwhile, the intro follows its own timeline. The intro still ends on schedule, and your plan still starts and is charged unless you cancel first. Running out of minutes doesn’t cancel anything by itself.

Cancelling before your plan starts

Cancel at any point before the intro ends and your plan is never charged. Cancelling doesn’t refund the intro on its own; for that, write to support within 7 days of buying. The cancellation applies at the end of the intro, and you can keep using the intro minutes until then. It only takes a moment: Account Settings › Manage billing opens our payment provider’s billing portal in a new tab, where you cancel the subscription. The full steps are in Cancelling your subscription. You can start another plan later from the pricing page in the app; it is paid in full at checkout.

On a paid plan

  • Plan minutes are counted in exactly the same way: the spoken language is free, so 2 languages use 1 minute per minute of the call, 3 languages use 2.
  • Minutes come with your plan and are added at the start of each billing period, and any you don’t use stay on your account. On any paid plan you can also buy extra minute packs in the app, where their sizes and prices are shown. Packs aren’t available during the intro or a free trial; you can buy them once the plan has been charged in full for the first time. You can’t move a running plan up to a bigger one directly: cancel your current plan (it stays active until the paid period is over), and once it ends, start the bigger one from the pricing page in the app. Any later subscription has no intro and is paid in full at checkout.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically, at the billing interval of your plan shown at checkout, until you cancel.

The binding terms for all of this are in the Terms of Use, along with the Refund Policy. If anything about your intro seems wrong, write to support@lingvoo.com on the day you notice. If the plan charge is coming up soon, cancel first and write to us after: cancelling keeps the intro minutes usable until the end, so you lose nothing by doing it in that order. Free trials that began before intros were introduced keep their original terms.
